First-of-its-kind digital collaboration between the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation and KODAK Lens to raise awareness of uncorrected poor vision

The digital collaboration helps to raise awareness of the importance of vision care in a unique way while highlighting the global impact of uncorrected poor vision. 

The Group’s licensed brand, KODAK Lens and the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation recently celebrated their first-of-its kind digital collaboration, which aims to highlight the global impact of uncorrected poor vision. The partnership includes the digitization of Kody, a loveable astronaut mascot and digital collectible that builds on KODAK’s legacy of doing good, while raising awareness on the importance of good vision with its existing ‘Gift of Great Vision’ initiative.

 

Launched as a limited edition non-fungible token (NFT), eligible consumers who purchased a pair of KODAK Lenses during the campaign period from Dec 2022 to Feb 2023 were invited to redeem a Kody digital collectible through a dedicated link shared with them. Built on the Polygon network, an Ethereum* scaling tool, the Kody NFTs are hosted on one of the world’s most energy efficient blockchain networks.

Established in 2021, the ‘Gift of Great Vision’ initiative donates a pair of glasses for every pair of KODAK Lenses purchased. As a badge of support, the Kody collectibles are aimed at recognizing and uniting consumers who contribute to the cause.

 Thanks to the support of KODAK Lens distributors and wearers worldwide, more than 130,000 pairs of glasses were donated to the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation from 2021 to 2022.

In particular, the Group’s Wholesale Malaysian entity, Frames ‘N’ Lenses, contributed over 70,000 pairs that were donated by consumers in Malaysia in 2022 alone.

Uncorrected poor vision affects 1 in 3 people globally. 90% of these people live in developing communities where access to and awareness of vision care remains low. By injecting digital creativity within existing philanthropic efforts, the collaboration aims to embed itself into consumers’ digital lifestyle, while creating a community of like-minded and tech savvy individuals who want to continue supporting KODAK Lens and the Foundation’s vision care efforts.

7 markets currently participate in the program: Brazil, China, Germany, Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa, United States.
